The PitfallFind deadlines and renewal traps in a contract

When a contract arrives

The situation

The maintenance contract sits as a PDF in a folder. When you have to cancel is somewhere in the fine print.

The cut

Before

“Summarize this contract for me.”

After

Make it yours

Nothing leaves your browser.

e.g. 30
e.g. January 1, 2026

Prompt to copy

Goal: Find all deadlines in the attached contract and every clause that has consequences if I do nothing.

Source: Only the attached document. Do not give a legal assessment.

Expectations:
1. A table with the columns Topic, Verbatim quote, Location (clause or page), Deadline, Consequence if I do nothing.
2. Pay special attention to notice periods, automatic renewal, minimum term, price adjustments, payment terms and warranty.
3. If a clause is worded unclearly, write “unclear, have it reviewed”.
4. After that: list the deadlines as calendar entries with date, title and a reminder [Advance warning in days, e.g. 30] days before. Calculate from the contract start [Contract start, e.g. January 1, 2026] and show the calculation.

No add-on license, in Microsoft Copilot Chat with file upload. Without a copy button: select the text and copy it with Ctrl+C.

How to use it

  1. Attach the contract as a file in Microsoft Copilot Chat.
  2. Fill in the advance warning and the contract start, then send.
  3. Compare every deadline with the quote in the contract.
  4. Recalculate the dates yourself.
  5. Create the calendar entries yourself, with the advance warning as a reminder.

How to spot a good answer

  • A table with a verbatim quote and location for each deadline.
  • “unclear, have it reviewed” for unclear clauses.
  • A date calculation you can follow.
  • Calendar entries with date, title and reminder.

The check

Count your active contracts with a notice period in your calendar, before and after.

Limits

  • No legal advice. For “unclear, have it reviewed”, ask an expert.
  • Double-check date calculations yourself, especially for deadlines at the end of a month.
  • According to Microsoft, Enterprise Data Protection applies to prompts and responses when you sign in with a work or school account. Still, only upload confidential contracts according to your internal rules.
  • According to Microsoft, file uploads have limits. The pages we checked give no numbers.
