The Hawk EyeCheck a draft against the source document
Before a summary goes out
The situation
You summarized the annual report for the board of directors. There may be a wrong number in it, and by the third read you no longer see it.
The cut
Before
“Is my summary correct?”
After
Make it yours
Nothing leaves your browser.
Prompt to copy
Goal: Check my draft against the attached source document. Do not rewrite anything. Source: The attached document [Source document, e.g. file name] is the only source. My draft is below. Expectations: A table with the columns Statement from my draft, Location in the source, Finding. Finding is exactly one of these values: supported, different, not in the source. For “different”, quote the passage from the source verbatim. Pay special attention to numbers, dates, names and deadlines. At the end: how many statements you checked. My draft: [Draft, e.g. your summary or text]
No add-on license, in Microsoft Copilot Chat with file upload. Without a copy button: select the text and copy it with Ctrl+C.
How to use it
- Upload the source document to Microsoft Copilot Chat.
- Fill in the file name and your draft, then send.
- Look up every row marked “different” or “not in the source” yourself.
- Spot-check two rows marked “supported” in the document.
How to spot a good answer
- A table with exactly three possible findings.
- A verbatim quote from the source for every discrepancy.
- The number of checked statements at the end.
The check
Insert two wrong numbers on purpose. If the Hawk Eye does not find both, do not rely on it alone. After that, count each month the errors that only come up after sending.
Limits
- According to Microsoft, file uploads have limits. The pages we checked give no numbers.
- “Supported” is a pointer, not proof. Verify two hits yourself.
- According to Microsoft, Microsoft Copilot Chat stores uploaded files in your OneDrive for Business. You can delete them there at any time.
- Only upload confidential documents if your internal rules allow it.
